We are staying in a carpet filled condo that requires daily or at least every other day vacuuming. Especially with toddler/baby moving around leaving a trail of crumbs where ever they go. Of course I vacuumed at our old house but in a house with wall to wall hard wood the vacuum did not come out as often as the Norwex mop did. Let's just say that here the vacuum has become somewhat of a novelty for Kaia. Well novelty I don't know but it has become a hot topic for conversation and activity in this little condo. For the last three ish days Kaia has been saying to me "vacuum Mom". I started responding by simply saying "yes Mommy will vacuum later". Kaia would persistently ask me through out the day the same question until finally I would do a serious scan of the floor and decide well yes Kaia is probably right I need to vacuum. I would pull out the vacuum Kaia would get all excited and watch me gather all of the toys and things off the floor and pull out the vacuum. Kaia would race to the couch and sit and watch me vacuum with deep concentration. This has gone on for a few days now but there has been some evolvement to the routine. Kaia will not let up until I whip out that vacuum. At first it was all cutesy and funny haha she likes watching me vacuum, haha she is trying to tell me something about the state of our little home. Now I'm feeling like I have a little parent following me around monitoring my chores and when things should be done. She asks me at least every hour "vacuum Mom", "Vacuum Mom". I feel like a whinny teenager now...I'm thinking in my head every time she asks me "sheesh leave me alone I'll vacuum later". arghh. It even got the point where I stopped Kaia mid sentence and said Kaia I will vacuum later OK lay off! I am trying to figure out what in the world is this new obsession about. But then I thought hmmm maybe she is trying to tell me something here like um maybe "I'm bored". Yes we live in a city with many many options. But right now as a part of our transition Erick is taking our car to work. Erick needs to get into a carpool and we are in the market for a second vehicle. So we are some what stranded at the moment. So after a morning of being pestered by my 2 year old to vacuum my floor I gave in and started vacuuming. She watches me so intently while I vacuum so I had a second thought maybe she really wants to learn how to vacuum or maybe she wants a vacuum ride....oh I'm a fool. Just as I was finishing up Kaia got off her little perch and came over to me and said "I try Mama". But as I handed her the vacuum she ran so fast back to her perch and said "no Mama". I put the vacuum away as I am finished for today and doesn't that brown eyed little girl look up and me like 10 minutes later and say "vacuum Mom". AHHHHH. Although my floors have never been cleaner I'm thinking its time to get involved in a little play group or something! Our weekends are always full we are on the go go go and come Monday and Tuesday the girls and myself are pretty content to relax and catch up with our routine things. But I'm thinking we need to add a play group to our schedule for the mid week crazies. It is time I need to do some research and figure out what we can do....that falls on the path of the city bus route too. We have already had one trip on the city bus and I don't think I have seen Kaia's eyes so big when the giant bus pulled up and we actually got on it. And then we all know that there is no lack of characters on the city bus to stare at. We can handle a little city transit until we get more organized. Time to make an effort....other wise I may start getting harassed to scrub the toilets or something. We were active participants in most all the play groups in Elkford so it is time to get involved in Kamloops.
Loving husband, two beautiful girls and a furry four legged buddy...I really do have it all.

Hello Kamloops
It has been one month...one month that has flown by. I remember when we first pulled into the city. It was about 5pm the sun was shinning we were so excited. We got the keys to the bachelor suit we would be staying in for the first 3 weeks. The shock and excitement that we were HERE clouded the fact that we were staying in a bachelor suit. We did not care we would make it work. After quickly scanning our new home we realized that there was definitely some things that we needed to get, apart from the obvious grocery shop. Off to the grocery store we went, our cart filled up fast. We needed this that and the other things.....we grabbed the bulk toilet paper, bulk paper towel and bulk everything. We had doubles and triples of everything that we needed. It was weird both Erick and I kind of stopped looked at each other and it dawned on us. "wait a minute we live here now". If I need more of this or that I can come back tomorrow and get it heck I could come back in two hours and get what I forgot. We call our condition the "hoarder mentality". Living rurally causes such side effects as buying bulk items to "stalk up" because who knows when you are going to "get to town" again or even worse you may be snowed in. I mean yes this was our first grocery shop on our very first couple of hours in town. But even one month into this adventure and we are still catching ourselves grabbing 7 of each item in the ethnic food section which contains items that you wouldn't dream of finding at Kootenay Market. Erick and I are both naturally shopping lovers so this new adventure has brought shopper to a whole new level. Shopping is our weekend fun and even during the week we will make a special trip winners or walmart just because we can. I will never forget a couple Saturdays ago we were driving Kaia to her dance class and both of us were silent just taking in the sights as we drove until all of a sudden I see this little sandwich board sign that says "Filipino Store" "look look Erick a Filipino store" I'm shouting and pointing Erick says "what what where, lets go stop the car stop the car"......and then our new Mantra kicks in ok, we have to take Kaia to dance. "We live here now we can go shopping at this store anytime we want to, We live here now we can go shopping at this store anytime we want to". I will never forget Erick's comment as he took his first bite of Pandesal (sweet bun) "I love Kamloops". We now visit this store every Saturday after Kaia's dance class.
Kaia has had some additions to her vocabulary since we have arrived. I put my jacket on last night to take the garbage out and Kaia says to me "shopping Mama" Every time we go somewhere she says that. When we are driving around town Kaia says "Kaia's Kamloops" or "I lub Kamloops". On a couple of other occasions Kaia has said to me "home Mama, home Mama". Hearing this breaks my heart. My girls have been so incredibly resilient through all of this change. It has been 2 months now since we left our house. Both Kaia and Luka have had little moments of out of the ordinary fussiness. But for the most part they have not complained much at all about all of this change and bouncing around sleeping in different rooms and beds. They have done well and for that I am glad but oh boy do I wish that I could give Kaia her things back. I want her to have HER room back with her bed and her toys. SOON
Kaia's dance class....oh how I love that she is in dance. Although last week she would not have anything to do with the dance class she is loving it. The class is not parent involved so we drop her off and let her do her class for a half an hour. She is loving it for the most part and as it turns out her dance teacher is someone that I use to dance with back in my dancing days....(Yes I had dancing days). Erick joined a gym and I started going to a yoga studio....oh the possibilities....I am loving it WE are loving it.
Thank fully this last weekend we moved into a 2 bedroom apartment with lots of space for the girls to run around and each of us to have our own space. No luck so far on house hunting The right house is out there somewhere and we are determined to find it. We have looked at oh...15 houses I think. It will happen SOON.

Goodbye Elkford
It has been a long time since my last entry and with all that time there has been a lot of change.
I have written lots before about my desire to move on from the little town of Elkford. Since having my girls I have felt that Elkford just isn't a good fit for me and us anymore. It has been just over a year since first discussing my desire to move with Erick and after many a long talks we decided that we would set a 1-2 year goal of moving our little family. I knew that it wasn't going to be an easy move in many more ways than just one. We have a lot of deep connections to Elkford. I get asked the question quite often why I want to leave Elkford or what part of Elkford don't I like. The easiest answer I have for that is that I am bored in Elkford I want more opportunity for my children. I don't want to be stranded in my driveway or the town when the snow hits anymore. I want to be able to have an evening to myself at the coffee shop, book store, craft store....or yoga studio (past 6pm). I want my daughters to do dance, ballet, hip hop or any sports their heart desires that isn't limited by lack of coaching. I do not mean to offend the people that love Elkford and choose to raise their families there. We are all different we all have different desires. So anyways after Luka was born the itch emerged again marking the sixth month ish mark after we had agreed that we should try and move on from Elkford. I definitely was getting antsy, I am sure the never ending winters and the two busy babies had something to do with it all but needless to say I had an itch that needing scratching. We didn't really know where to start with the whole process and most everyone would probably agree that putting our house up for sale was doing things a little backwards....I would have to say I agree but looking back I don't really know how we could have done things any different.
So the house went up for sale and the questions from friends and family and our little town began..."where are you guys moving, what are you guys doing"? I loved the reactions we got when we replied - "I don't know". Rest assured my friends I know it may have seemed as though we were walking a little bit blindly but there was a bit of a plan some where in there. Poor Erick who is definitely a planner in more ways than one did have some anxiety with this process, but we made it through. Of course this whole journey we were on lead Erick and I to have many conversations about where we were going to go and what we were going to do and we bonked heads a lot! But than all of a sudden our house sold!!! Holy crap holy crap....now its decision making time. The way everything happened was all sort of crazy Erick and I will both tell you that it is all unreal how the next few months unfolded. We were visiting Kamloops when we got word that the house sold...."its a sign". I have always wanted to move back to Kamloops and it was one of the main places that we both liked and I was job shopping on line here for Erick since the day we planned on moving. While we were still on our trip in Kamloops we got word that there was a job opening here at the Teck owned mine. "Another sign". Of course as soon as we got home I revamped Erick's resume and sent it off......So after my realization that it was important to Erick to stay working with Teck the company that he has worked for for the last 15 years our plan became apparent to us. We will move to Kamloops if Erick gets this job or we will move to Cranbrook if he does not get the job either way Erick remains with Teck and his years of hard work and service will remain in tact and we will be moving out of Elkford. Ohh....the waiting....luckily it wasn't too long. Oh and did I mention the people that bought our house didn't want in it for 2.5 months. This gave us time to organize our lives...
I could go on about the details and the process in which we got here but lets just say that we were extremely blessed. Erick got an amazing job opportunity that was pretty hard to turn down. We are here in Kamloops! We miss our families and friends in a bad way.....but the adventures that the 4 of us have already been on since we left Elkford have been pretty great. I don't think any of our friends or family who are sad to see us leave would ask us to give up any of these great family memories that we now have.
I will say this though...these words have been in my heart since the moment I knew that it was time for me to leave Elkford....
Elkford is a part of who we are...in no way are we walking away and never turning back. We will be back (at christmas of course) and we will be back often. We are the small town people. We love the wilderness, the community and the sense that each person we know there is a part of the story of our lives in some way or another. We thank you Elkford for everything that you have given us...be it education, jobs, memories both happy and sad.....we are who we are today because we were raised in Elkford....for that we are greatly and forever thankful. We will forever have small town hearts we just have big city dreams......

The last 24 hours have proven to be testing...I didn’t sleep much if at all last night. Baby Lulu was just not settling. My ass is sore because I sit in that chair all night long....sleep nursing. Universe a lazy boy recliner would be such a blessing. Today at one point I had both of my sweeties crying one from her swing and the other at my feet reaching up at me. I was preparing lunch but the crying didn’t stop when lunch was ready. Kaia was angry with me because Teddy wasn’t allowed to sit on her lap while we ate lunch. After persuading her to put Teddy in his own chair and give him a few bites of lunch she was settled to eat. Sometimes it is such a test of wills between the two of us both so stubborn.
Nap time...ohh nap time of course one napped and one cried. I look at the looming mess all over my living room my un showered smelly self and the laundry and and and.....oh I had my fingers crossed that my littlest will nap so I can at least shower. Luckily she did let me shower but only that. She hung out with me while I toweled and blow-dried. I figured if she was going to fight a snooze she might as well have a bath too. So now both babes sleep. I don’t smell and my house is somewhat “tidy”. Everything is so much work these days. I need to stop and remind myself to be take a breath and relax enjoy the moment. I have learned with my first that time just flies so quickly by I don’t want to wish any of it away, even the difficult times. Oddly enough week two is proving to be more difficult than week one with Erick back to work.

peace for the moment
The snow is melting and I am so very happy that spring is starting to spring. Bundling my babies is so much work I can’t wait until I can go outside and all I have to apply is hats and sunscreen. But I am sure I will find something else to complain about when that time comes.
My itch to get out of this town has not subsided it still lingers we just haven’t scratched it yet. We have been talking a lot more about it lately. Moving doesn’t seem like it is going to be easy for us. We are being really cautious and picky. We don’t want to take a pay cut and I don’t know if I like the idea of Erick working away. Erick going back to working on tools as an electrician would mean a pay cut and it doesn’t seem like there are many planning jobs around. Something just might have to give though....a sacrifice made....money is so evil. The houses here are selling....so I do feel like it is a great time for us to get a move on. Oh life why do you have to be so complicated. Universe...PLEASE I beg.....
For now though I will bask in my momentary peace.....

My baby girl has arrived...
Luka Ann Canlas born Feb 16th....she almost made it on her Lolo’s birthday but this little girl wanted her own special day. Mom has gone home and Erick is back to work Luka is three weeks old today and the routine and reality that I have two children is starting to set in. I have survived my first week with Erick back to work and I actually managed to get to two play groups. My poor little Kaia gets so bored when we are home for a day without doing anything. Her boredom translates as a whinny unhappy little girl, which then usually results in a whinny unhappy Mama. So although packing up my little girls is a lot of work it does pay off. I would have to say though my house is a pig sty....fitting in cleaning is still on my agenda of things to figure out.
Finding the time to sit on the computer, knit, sew or anything by myself between naps, meals and nursing has proven challenging. I often have one in my arms and one pulling my finger to take me to her room to play. This is her favorite thing to do. She just loves to have us sit with her in her room while she plays. She tried grabbing Luka’s little hand to come and play with her. Luka now joins us as we hunker down on the floor and watch Kaia play and make a mess. When Kaia naps I am usually found trying to fit Luka and my laptop on my lap while I nurse her. Just for that brief little bit of mindless wonder.
Everything is still here there and everywhere....and I don’t really know what is up or down sometimes but I am surviving and determined that when all this dust settles I will have figured out how to have some time for myself...a relatively tidy house and a happy healthy couple of girls.....

I'm ready little baby
Feb 12 2012
Well hello...two days overdue....almost 2 weeks into my Mom’s visit....and still no feelings of any sort of cramps or twinges.
I can honestly say that although life has been harder in the sense of caring for my little monsters with a basketball in my gut I have not felt ready to be done done done more so then I do now. Shortness of breath, mobility constraints, bladder issues and tiredness have now all taken their toll and taken me to the place of being ready. I am ready to hold my baby; I am ready to play with Kaia for longer than minutes at a time. It is funny that I say I am ready though because I still have moments where I feel like I don’t really think the reality has set in. The reality that I am going to have two monsters really hasn’t set in. I am physically ready and I have my home ready....but boy mentally I don’t think I know what is about to hit me. I don’t think Kaia really knows what is about to hit her too. I keep trying to tell her that there is a baby in my tummy and I play with her dolls like I would a newborn. But I just don’t think that any amount pretend play or talking will really prepare my little 16 month olds mind what is about to happen.
Well if it ever does happen.
My sister in-law informed me that Erick’s late father’s birthday is on Feb 17th. Maybe that is what this little baby is waiting for. It would be a great honour. I don’t know what day or what time. But I am ready.

Saturday morning we took Kaia to the local sledding spot. After purchasing a couple sleds from our local “General Store” we trucked over to the hill and attempted sending Kaia down the hill for her first time. We haven’t really spent a lot of time out in the snow so she still kind of looks at it and touches it with a look on her face as if to say “what the heck is this white stuff”? Of course Erick went down the first few times with her. I can tell you that she didn’t really crack a smile or a frown. She kind of just looks so indifferent. Well actually she kind of gives you these looks and I am sure she is thinking “ok here we go let’s do this to make the parents happy I’ll let them snap a few photos laugh at me and then hopefully it will be over”. After her and Erick went down a few times together we got brave and started sending her down on her own and still no real emotion or expressions expressed. Although one of the runs down the hill she bailed off the sled and ended up doing a log roll down the rest of the hill. I have this uncontrollable problem...I tend to laugh my ass off when people fall, trip or in this case go tumbling down the hill. And this was no exception. You may think I am so very cruel laughing at my 16 month old as she tumbles down the hill and not chasing down the hill after her. But after the ordeal was over she looked up at me and I am sure when she seen me laughing she was thinking “ok, I am ok I don’t need to cry”. Thankfully she didn’t get any snow in her face but yet again not a peep came out of her. She is a tough little cookie.
Sunday we hung out at home for most of the day I took her outside for a cruise on the sled just around our neighbourhood. I was trying to make it really fun for her maybe get a giggle or two out of her. I was going in circles and running but my indifferent little girl was more interested in dragging her gloved little hand along the side of the sled in the snow. She would then look at all the snow that would accumulate on her mitt shake it off, taste it and then stick her hand out and drag it again. I don’t think I got one giggle out of her. She is so serious.
All that snow “FUN” from the weekend and by Sunday night I could have sworn that my pelvic bones were going to split in half and a baby was going to fall out. I think trucking through the snow definitely was the most calories I have burned in a few weeks. Thank goodness I have a chiropractor appointment this week. I have a little bit of a limp to add to my waddle....limp waddle, limp waddle..... According to my little pregnancy app on my iphone I have 18 more days...Kaia came 5 days early...give or take...not much longer and my limp waddle will turn into a bliss filled sleep deprived zombie walk. I really don’t think that it has donned on me yet that I am going to have another newborn in my life very soon.

ramblings of a trapped Mama
I am stranded in this little town yet again. This time it is quite literal. The roads going in any direction have been closed due to this crazy ass weather. They are back open again today except I don’t see the point in risking my family’s life on the road report of compact snow and icy conditions. I have weekly doctor’s appointments now and I haven’t made it to the last two. I don’t really have any plans to go anywhere but it is mostly the “knowing” that even if I did want to go anywhere it wouldn’t happen. I am out of dog food which we buy in Fernie with no exception. The exception includes cleaning up dog shit in my house for a couple days. An exception I am not willing to compromise on. There are little things like buying dog food that really get to me. I want to be able to go to the store at anytime to get what I need.
My driveway looks immaculate on most days due to my husband’s compulsive need to snow blow steady. I am thankful that he has these compulsive behaviours; I have learned a new appreciation for a snowless driveway. But that is two hours out of our evenings that I could think of a million other things we could be doing as a family. He even missed all his other commitments out of the house last night in order to fix up the snow blower and get the drive way accessible. Anyways that is another reason why I need to move. I was not meant to live in this snow filled town.
My “nesting syndrome” has proven to have good effect on my motivation. The sewing machine has been up and running yet again with one project down and thoughts of many more on the horizon. I almost broke the needle on my machine the other night and I nearly started crying. Breaking a needle or should I say the last needle I have would completely halt my sewing because yet again I would have to leave town in order to buy another one. Luckily the needle held out and I was able to complete my project. My knitting needles have also been active. I am making little newborn hats for my new little bundle and for the other bundles that are soon expected. The only thing is there are a few of us that have not found out the sex of our babies so I need to knit a couple color options. Thankfully the hats are itty bitty...they are a bit faster to knit.
Kaia’s swimming still and I have noticed that she is starting to excel. She blows bubbles and is getting way more comfortable to run around in the shallow end. She jumps in while we hold her hands. It’s funny how you do something regularly and don’t really notice any change and then all of a sudden there is growth and change improvement. Regardless I love that she is a little swimmer and will not be afraid to explore the water. Swimming was something that my Mom was adamant that we learned growing up and I too am very adamant about my kids learning those skills.
For the last couple of months I have been trying to show Kaia how to feed her dolls or hold them gently. It hasn’t really been that successful she doesn’t seem to care. Fair enough she is very young yet. But lately she has started to feed her dolls and her teddy. It is pretty cute I must admit and it is progress. Hopefully the gentleness will make more sense to her when we are actually referring to an actual living baby.
Off to go distract myself with some more knitting.

"Nesting" ya...ok
After spending my $45 wad of Canadian Tire money I managed to walk away with a little stack of Rubbermaid storage containers and a few more odds and ends. I am thrilled that I got most all of my items for FREE....saving Canadian Tire money does pay off....I am even more thrilled that my nesting, purging, basement clutter cleaning has begun. I have spent the shreds of my last 2 evenings getting my basement back to working order. My car is full of bags and boxes that are going to the thrift store. My daughters clothes are no longer in random bags and boxes strewn all over my basement they are now in itemized boxes that are neatly labelled with the sizes. I have also brought a bag of newborn clothes and paraphernalia that I will soon need to our bedroom. We will be sharing our sanctuary with a little being soon enough. I was thinking as I laid my head down last night that my full nights of sleep are drawing to a close. Anyhow we have a little shelf especially for the baby and the cradle is ready to be taken up there as well.
All this purging and organizing feels so good I must admit and I do know that I feel this way pregnant or not. Whenever I get in the mood to organize and purge, I always end feeling so satisfied. I’m not really sure why they call this phase “nesting” it sounds more like a syndrome when you say that. I am simply thinking of my impending life changing, crazy ass scheduleless, mind and mood altering life. This life I speak of hasn’t completely arrived yet but I know it is coming so it only seems fitting to prepare. Right? I am being smart or proactive even. I am not responding to a crazy lady syndrome of pregnancy. I am simply using my precious time wisely only to help my future. So pre cooking meals and baking for the freezer are simply tasks that I am doing to ease my life....When I think of me doing these things as a result of nesting it makes me feel like I am some barefoot, bulging pregnant lady in the kitchen with flour in my rats nest of a hair doo. Oh and I must have the look of frantic I need meds for this “nesting syndrome” on my face. Sheesh! Am I just losing my mind and now making myself look like this crazy pregnant lady? Or are there others out there that feel like we should take a stand for our pregnant asses? We are not simply a walking syndrome. I have swollen feet syndrome, I have I eat too much sweets syndrome, insomnia syndrome, bitchy syndrome, oh it’s just the hormones syndrome, oh your way too fat to pick that up let me get it for you syndrome, let’s organize our life so we have some sort of sanity and peace syndrome otherwise known as “nesting”. What the hell. I’m pregnant and that is all.
Seems to me I may be losing my mind a bit but we’ll blame it on living in a town with only one road in.

New Year
It is a new year and a renewed discipline for journal/ blog writing. I see that I have not posted since September.....since then work and mother had has taken over my life. If I am not doing one I am doing the other. I have been working my ass off trying to get in enough hours to qualify for maternity leave. I think that it is a losing battle though. There is no way I am going to have the time to cram in the rest of the hours I need to qualify. I am now 34 weeks and 6 days pregnant...37 more days until the due date but that doesn’t mean much of anything. People keep asking me when I am going to work until and my joke is “when my water breaks”. There are some opportunities lingering that may help my situation but I won’t mention those until they happen or if they happen. I think that I have retired myself of nightshifts I am at the point where my body is starting to remind me of my limitations. So that also limits me to the amount of shifts that are available. That and childcare.
The month of December flew by like a breeze....we went to Nova Scotia for 10 days for the holidays. It was a great time and I loved showing Erick around the east coast. We both agree that we will have to make it back in the summer months so that he can see the hustle and bustle of summer and the beauty as well. Kaia survived the flights and so did I.
My little mover and shaker is doing well....babbling and talking lots. Her vocabulary consists of words like: thank you, wow, uh oh, what’s that, night night, nice teddy.....and please take note that each of these words has their own. As I am sitting her typing I am trying to think of how I can spell her version of these words and do them justice but I don’t think it’s possible.
She is definitely a mover taking her first steps about two days before Halloween. I was warned that when she becomes mobile I will be busy and wishing she sat still again. But I can honestly tell you that I am enjoying the independence just as much as she is. I love that she goes and explores and wonders around looking for the next best entertainment. Yes watching volleyball practice and games is more work and yes shopping can be a challenge. But it is a challenge that I am ok with. I like to refer to myself more as a child wrangler when we are in public.
Kaia and I still faithfully go to play group almost every day of the week and her new found mobility has definitely made playing with the other children way more appealing to her. She is into caring her little purse around the room and stopping for breaks as she squats down and checks the contents of her purse. Anything that has the remote resemblance of a strap she automatically turns it into a purse and puts it on her arm and parades around with it. Shoes are her one of her loves...if you leave your shoes lying around it will almost definitely get relocated by a certain someone.
Swimming lessons is also still on our agenda. Kaia loves the water. Although getting her to do a back float or ignore the box of toys can sometimes be a challenge.
Right now I am onto weekly doctor’s appointments, so that, hanging out with Kaia and her social scene and trying to fit in some work is pretty much what takes up our schedules these days.
I have been thinking about it for a while now and meaning to get my thoughts and happenings down on paper again. So here is to the beginning again of more blogging.

Holy water and hunting
Two more days till Kaia gets sprinkled with holy water in front of many of our friends and family. I know that it is really more meaningful than just getting sprinkled with holy water. Although there is a large part of me that is doing this for Erick and his family as I am not catholic I am still happy to raise my children to know God, his love and all that he has for our lives. I was not raised in a Christian home but I immersed myself in the church when I was around 12 years old. I chose to get baptised and to live my life totally immersed in the Christian culture. I know the value of having that as a foundation for my life and I hope that I can help my children develop that same foundation. I truly would not be where I am today in life if it were not for my relationship with God. Whether it is a relationship that was lived loudly or a relationship that has been in my heart I have been guided, blessed and loved. And I do want the same for my children. I know that Erick feels the same way he too has a great foundation that has brought him comfort and strength in many ways. I know that he wants those same experiences for his children.
Well as I said before the list is still looming over my head....I need to wash linens, clean out my fridge, do bathrooms and wash my floors.......and and and. I at least accomplished my pantry clean out and washing the windows. I worked yesterday so yesterday was a complete waste. Erick has tomorrow off so that is great cause my little mover is a little clinger that doesn`t know how to entertain herself. I need to hire a child to come and hang out with her for a couple hours while I clean. Our niece Mataya was here a couple days ago with her mom and she played and played with Kaia it was great except I sat on my butt and had coffee with Paula. It did get my wheels turning though about having Mataya over more often ;). The company starts trickling in tomorrow afternoon my Dad being the first guest to arrive. My parents are parking their trailer here for the weekend to make room in our house for Erick’s cousin Mari and her little family. Hunting season begins on Saturday too so that also brings a bit more busy into our household. Erick loves hunting and I think my Dad is staying a few extra days to get some hunting in. Hunting is just one of the things Erick has on his already filled list of 101 things to do in Elkford. Hey maybe I should start hunting.

Holy $* I am a parent
This week is going to be jam packed with cleaning organizing and prepping for company. Kaia is getting baptised on Saturday and we have a big to do planned. We have lots of company staying with us and lots and lots of guests coming to enjoy a lunch at our house after the baptism. Kaia’s Lola has been prepping for this occasion for months now making lots and lots of yummy food. I have lots of cleaning and bed making and organizing to do and it is already Tuesday.....I for some reason have a list of chores that involves organizing my pantry cleaning my front windows and cleaning the fridge. Why I have chosen this week to do these big tasks....maybe it was purely for motivation purposes. Who knows but we’ll just wait and see how much I actually get done.
I go back into work tomorrow for four hours of computer training. Kaia will spend another half day with her Lola. But this time she will come here in the morning which is so great then I don’t have to wake Kaia up and pack her all up so early in the morning.
Kaia’s little personality has come out so much lately she has started being bossy to Brucelee our dog in her baby babble. She points at him and yells I’m assuming mimicking us giving the dog trouble or telling him to lie down. She really cracks me up with her facial expressions too which is nothing new. I think that was her first line of communication....you know exactly what she is feeling based on the looks on her face. She dances to the sound of music now and bobs her head to the beat I love it.
I have started weaning her from the boob, she is totally fine with it. She doesn’t seem to miss it. I mean if I offer it to her she will take it but she doesn’t seem to miss it during the day when I pass her sippy cup with breast milk in it. I have a l ton of breast milk frozen so she has been getting that and I will go just straight to homo milk after that....she is at the age where she is past the risk point of getting a sensitivity to dairy; Which is great because I have no desire to pay for and or mix and wash bottles of formula. It all couldn’t have worked out better. I gave her a sippy cup with milk in it last night before bed she laid on the couch beside me and enjoyed every last drop sitting up between gulps and kicking her legs. I think she is enjoying the independence that comes with it too. I was a leaky mess last night although there was no pain or engorgement I suppose I can`t really complain. I have been anticipating weaning Kaia for a couple weeks now she has started using her teeth a lot more than normal and I am feeling like it is time for a bit of a break before the new baby. I was feeling emotional last night when I realized that I have started the process of weaning her. I know that I am going to be breast feeding again very soon so I don`t think it is the feeling of missing that. I guess my emotions mostly were coming from my little baby growing up and not needing me as much anymore. In a lot of ways I am more than ready for her to have some more independence especially with me going back to work. I guess there is a bit of sadness that another chapter is closing ALREADY. I nursed Kaia this morning.....a moment of weakness I suppose. But the momentary relapse didn`t seem to faze her. She took her pre nap sippy cup just fine and didn`t even ask for the boob.
Oh the joys...I still can`t believe most of my thoughts and conversations involve parenting I feel like I am another person inside my head. Holy shit I am a parent.

Well...My first day back at work has passed and I survived. Although yesterday was hardly work. We more or less orientated back to all the changes and all the new equipment. Wow I now know how much change and growth can happen in the little life of an infant but it is real to me now how much change happened at work in this year that I was gone. I feel positive about a lot of the change that took place although I have heard some negative feedback from people I suppose I wasn’t around to hear all the politics that when along with a lot of the change.
Erick asked me how work was and I gushed....I really enjoy the people that I work with and the facility that I work in. Obviously I could complain about a few things at work but those people and those things are in every facility and town you would ever go to. So I am not holding the negative against this place. I told him that when we ever move I will really miss this job. I knew going back to work would help my peace of mind. I then went to say to Erick “it’s a darn shame that Fernie is so expensive to live in I would consider moving there”. I think I made Erick’s wheels turn a little bit. What that means I am not sure.
My beautiful little resilient bundle of joy made it through her day with her Lola (Filipino for Grandma). I am happy to say that she wore her Lola out and entertained her cousin Matya who helped her little heart out with Kaia. The child care in this town is definitely a problem but so far we have been lucky to get offer(s) plural to help us with child care....it must be kaia’s charming little smile. Or my non fulltime status it is a little less daunting I think.
I have a coworker that was also returning back to work at the same time as me from a maternity leave. She also has a little daughter who was born days apart from Kaia. It was nice to have someone to share that with. It was also nice to chat about our little babies and all the great stages they are in. She is returning back fulltime though unlike my casual status.
Fall is in the air and I love it. I for some reason have always felt ashamed to say that I am excited for autumn to appear but I am finally going to shout it out proud. Summer you and your hot warming sun are great and I do like you too....but autumn you are my new favourite...and maybe always have been. We have had rain for the last few days and I am not complaining. The leaves here are yellowing already and there are a few on the ground. I see people gearing up for hunting, everyone is school shopping and I’m thinking about Halloween costumes. I love that you have to wear one more layer of clothes but you don’t quite have to go to the parka and you can still get away with flip flops.....
Oh I would like to say that have a couple more things to add to my 101 things to do list because the fall activity guide came out.... unless I get permitted to do the yoga session pregnant I am out of luck. Insert many curse words here........there was nothing to fucking do for me and Kaia.
Cleaning my house is # 3 on the list dammit.
My house has been neglected over the last few days time to chip away at the list...starting with laundry and coffee. I’m so thrilled that I am back on the coffee wagon....oh how I have missed you. And dam you Elkford.

150 beats a minute....that was the rate of my littlest creation’s heart beat today. Of course because this is the second time around I am comparing everything and so far not much is the same and not much is different. I don’t remember Kaia’s heart rate being that high she was always around 130-140. I don’t feel like my baby bump has bumped out yet which is awkward when getting dressed I hate this stage...I find myself in stretchy pants although jeans with a belly band would work I just don’t feel comfy enough. I haven’t felt a distinct boot; I thought maybe I felt a flutter or two but who knows it could have been gas for all I know. I remember when we felt Kaia kick for the first time we were in a hotel watching tv and I remember I said to Erick “your baby is doing something funny in here” and he reached over and we both rested our hands on my tummy and boom two hard boots hit both of us at the same time it was pretty amazing. Erick’s expression was like “holy shit there is something in there” and I was just like “do it again do it again”. It was pretty cool that we both felt it for the first time at the same time.
The nausea this time around is obviously worse....and has lasted way longer. I never had to take meds for the nausea with Kaia...but I am not complaining about the meds right now they are my best little white round friends.
So I’m gonna start a list of 101 ways Tiffany is trying to distract herself in this little town....Work is probably #1. And until the autumn activities schedule comes out reading is #2. At the moment I have dived into “The Help”. I am reading it with a friend and then hopefully at the end of it all the two of us Mommies will escape and go to the big screen and watch it when it comes out. Wow so my list only has 2 items on it...this is going to be a long season.
Did I mention 116 more days till x-mas.

Happy 11 months of life my beautiful little girl. One more month and she will be a one year old. As I always say this year went by so quickly but is so incredibly full of amazing memories experience and change. I have never realized how much life you can fill into one small amount of time. Amazing really.
Work is looming just around the corner but I am excited. I am excited to get out of the house and have some time away. Even if it is work. I have been whining and complaining constantly that I am ready to move and get out of this town. I am bored and unhappy living in this little one horse town. Don’t get me wrong this town has served us well. But the time has come to move onto bigger and better things. I could go on talking about all the reasons why I want to and think that we should move but I’d be here all day. The benefits of moving somewhere else would be endless for both Kaia and me and well Erick his hobbies and life style is totally pliable.
Money is the controller of all things it seems. Selling our house is an obvious factor, finding another source of income that is equal to or greater than Teck and of course finding a happy place for all of us. Dam Teck and their retention intentions....they work so well...it’s got us in hook line and sinker. Luckily Teck has other sites and I have been keeping my eyes peeled. Erick working away is not an option for us at the moment. We haven’t closed that door completely but it will be our final stitch get me the Bleep out of this town effort.
We are not absolutely opposed to changing companies but I think it would have to be a pretty darn good package deal to move us. Anyways this topic is depressing.....maybe work will distract me for a while. But in the mean time I am just putting it out there to God or the universe of the positive energy flows .....PLEASE HELP US MOVE!

Well summer is coming to an end....I can’t say I enjoyed my much anticipated warm weather and summer fun. I spent most of it curled up on my couch reeling with nausea. I’m near 16 weeks pregnant and I attempted two days off of the meds that have been curbing the nausea. The attempt was unsuccessful it only reminded me of the hell I had been experiencing prior to me giving in to the meds. So I am back to popping pills. Some of my energy levels have returned I have found myself taking Kaia on more outings and my taste for baking has come back slightly. Although I will be returning back to work very soon I am thankful that I am feeling better and I hope that when this bottle of pills runs out that I won’t have to continue on. 4 months of nausea is by far enough.
Kaia has been a trooper but I can tell she is getting bored of being cooped up in this house. Crawling helped to preoccupy her for a while...she has a whole new world of exploring now.
We are getting ready Kaia’s baptism September 10th. We will be having lots of company over to help us celebrate. I think that we may even give her a bit of an early birthday as well. She will be 1 year old very soon I am still shocked at how fast the time flies. I am no longer saddened that she isn’t the littlest baby anymore...I have been more excited for her growth and development. It is so exciting watching her learn new things and do all of the “firsts” that happen at this age.
I think it might be safe to say that I am finally feeling the energy to start writing regularly again, here’s to hoping that I actually have something to say these days.

Today
My birthday has come and gone....and I spent it exactly how the day allowed. I was feeling less than good. Nauseous, tired basically the day was filled with a weird watery cheek yucky after taste feeling. So the couch and my jams were my best friend.
I was brought to tears the other day. I asked Erick to get Kaia ready for bed and yet there was the messy kitchen still to tackle before I retired...and take note the time was before 8 pm. I was going to slump on the couch and wait for Erick to hand me my jammed little baby ready for her pre bed time nurse. But I scoffed and found some energy to start cleaning the kitchen. Erick came in the kitchen and basically stole the plates from my hands...Stop he said “I’ll do it”. I tried real hard not to show the water welling in my eyes....I just tried to explain to him that I am feeling so useless around here lately. I’m always asking Erick for help or to take over a task. I just want my life back I want to feel better. I feel like Kaia isn’t getting my full attention and I feel like house is falling apart. The house ok ya I can get over that...but my poor baby. These are days I won’t get back ever and I want to make them memorable. Blah! Enough complaining.
Apart from my last few weeks of feeling shitty how is today? Today is going good. We woke at 6am that seems to be Kaia’s new routine since she has been sleeping through the night like a rock star. I love her new night routine. I still wake up through the night I don’t know if it’s my habit from Kaia or what but when I do I check the good old video monitor to see how my power sleeper is doing. Most all of the time she is on the complete opposite side of the bed or flipped over but she is still fast asleep. I am happy to know that at some point in the night she woke or stirred and managed to find her way back to slumber land without me or a peep. So anyways....we woke early this morning as our new usual had a good breakfast and play session and Kaia is already down for her first nap time. Taylor my littlest sister is here for a visit for the week...or for however long she wants to stay. She is fun to have around and she is a big help entertaining Kaia. Actually Taylor and I have been spending most of the time giggling at Kaia as she has been entertaining us. Kaia’s personality is starting to come through....well personality/attitude. She shakes her head no at any question you ask her whether she knows the context or not it is pretty funny most of the time.
Yesterday when my Dad dropped Taylor off he asked Kaia if he could pick her up she shook her head no. He then asked her again she still shook her head no....he asked her a final time and she blew a huge raspberry at him basically saying “I SAID NO”. My poor Dad....but boy did me and Taylor laugh.
Today could be spent at the park and maybe pool.....but who knows Kaia is still sleeping and I have managed to sweep the floors and do a load of laundry. That is huge these days....I’m content with that alone. However....I have a 9 month and 14 year old to hang with for the day so I am sure the day will be fuller than a couple chores complete.
Oh one thing I am left wondering if any moms out there have some advice is.....when you started with the one nap a day...instead of the two naps...morning and afternoon. I don’t know how to tell what the signs Kaia is ready to do the transition.

NAUSEA
I have been hiding far away from my computer. The reason you may ask...NAUSEA! That is right yet again as it was with my first pregnancy I am dealing with a barfy, watery cheek, tired drag my ass don’t make me smell your perfume type life. My poor little girl is suffering too I am sure I am not as fun as I was pre NAUSEA. But I am trying my hardest to still live life. If I truly had it my way I would be laid up in my bed everyday all day. So as I started to mention....the computer is a source of my nausea. I am actually feeling pretty good at the moment. I was going to force myself to get on here and delete my 400 something emails and read some blogs and possibly update my own. But thankfully so far I am not forcing anything.
I am trying to find some normalcy so today in my brief moment of feeling ok I coloured my hair which was well overdue....I think April was the last time I touched my hair. I want to be even more ambitious and give myself a pedicure but I am wondering if this is my chance to treat myself I mean go and get a pedicure. I have one booked in August but that is so far away.
Nothing much has changed around the Canlas household. Kaia is on the verge of crawling but I feel like I have been saying that for months now. I think that my hard wood floors might be holding her back just a touch. She is eating almost everything....with the exception of the food that requires more than her six pearly whites.
We have now completed our baptism prep with the priest. We had to meet with him a number of times and now we can set a date for the baptism. We are a little late I know I think that most parents do the baptism when the baby is really little. Better late than never I suppose. I am going to get creative here and take some new pictures of Kaia and get some invitations made up. Well that is my plan anyways who knows though....you might receive a card I bought at the General Store.
I really want to get a family photo done of the three of us before I start showing too much. I suppose I want to document our family of three before it is obvious that we are well on our way to becoming a family of four. Time to hunt down a photographer.......I am not going to Wal-Mart.
I’m not going to push my luck too much here. I better move on to some other things before this “feeling good” wares off.

One day after my 3rd anniversary......I am content. 3 years of crazy love, crazy change, crazy fun and just plain crazy. I am 1.5 children richer. Yes 0.5 means that I am 6 weeks pregnant and expecting the next little mini. I am content. I have lots to think about but I am content to let my mind race while I live each moment with Kaia and Erick. Everyday will bring the answers to all the questions that I may have and I think I can finally wait for each of those days to come as they will on their own time. So this 3rd anniversary reminded me that I am one lucky wife, Momma and lady. I have it all really I do.
Our first camping trip last weekend was a success. It was a bit chilly at times which made me a tad miserable but the sun did peak through for a couple moments of warmth. Kaia was a champ with our tent camping. She was totally fine and didn’t have a single problem falling asleep and staying asleep.
This was the big reveal for our second pregnancy I even surprised Erick with the pregnancy test in his father’s day card.
We are going camping this weekend yet again this time with a bunch of friends and I am totally looking forward to the SUNSHINE! I am looking forward to having Kaia enjoy the outdoors without more than one layer on. I just can’t wait to be outside and enjoy it.
We have been outdoors walking but apparently there are aggressive deer in our neighbourhood. They posted a sign on the corner of our street “aggressive deer in the area”. I am so pissed by this. If my dog was aggressive they would do a hell of a lot more than post a sign. I can’t even comfortably relax in my own yard. I hate that. What can I do.....I need a better paint ball gun.
What a random array of thought this post is...but I guess those are just some of the things floating around in my mind this morning.
